When I had no tears left, she placed a cool, herb-filled eye pillow over my eyes and said, "Rest. The world will still be broken when you wake. But so will you. In the best way." I woke on a different table. A small bell sat beside me. Morning light—real morning light, golden and hopeful—streamed through a window that hadn't been there before. I was dressed in my own clothes, but they felt different. Lighter. My shoulders sat lower on my ribcage. My breath moved freely.
